29/03/2026:Memorial Update:

Currently, the necessary changes to the Downham Market Airfield Cairn Memorial are underway to ensure its long-term manageability. Thank you to all material sponsors and the Friends of the memorial. We will preserve the memorial effectively despite design challenges. I had no choice but to come up with a new look that would allow for its long-term upkeep, making it a low-maintenance memorial for many years to come. The new look memorial will add extra meaning with its new plaques, etc. I aim to have the memorial fully completed in Early May 2026, Weather Permitting!

Currently, there are no suitable photos of the memorial to display on the memorial website until the new design is completed. We will update with images once the work is finished, showcasing the improved memorial.

To honour the Downham Market Airfield Cairn Memorial, I would personally like to have the memorial blessed by an RAF Padre/Chaplain once completed. Then,  arrangements for a flyby by the BBMF Lancaster bomber. This, sadly, would need to be split into two separate events, as the BBMF Lancaster is undergoing restoration/main service at RAF Duxford.

For me personally,  to be able to stand at the memorial and see the Lancaster, to hear those four Merlin engines singing in that unmistakable tune, gives you goosebumps just thinking about it. The Lancaster, doing its salute/flyby over the airfield memorial, would be the greatest tribute ever to so many.
